‘Don’t give assembly ticket to LS nominees’

- HT Correspondent

KARNAL:FORMER Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ashok Tanwar on Sunday said Congress leaders who contested the Lok Sabha polls should not be given a ticket for upcoming assembly elections.

“Mera toh Congress gut tha jiska saath guton me baten huye logon ne nahi diya ( I did not have any group but the party, which was not supported by some of its own leaders)”, Tanwar said while interacting with the media here.

“Had all the leaders worked unitedly, the results of the Lok Sabha elections would have been different,” he said.

The former state party president said all the 10 party leaders, who contested the Lok Sabha elections, should not contest the forthcoming assembly election in the state.

When asked whether he would have any role in allotment of tickets, Tanwar said “people who have worked to strengthen the party should be given importance. Otherwise they (leadership) are free to give ticket to anybody”.

“I am doing my duty with honesty and will support the ones who have supported me,” he said.

Reacting over former chief minister and Congress Legislative Party leader, Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s claim of fulfilling promises made during August 19 Rohtak rally if party came to power, Tanwar said, “These are suggestions and not announcements. Everyone is welcome to give suggestion for the party’s manifesto.”

Earlier, Tanwar led a protest against demolition of a temple dedicated to Guru Ravidas in Delhi’s Tughlakabad area earlier this month. Accusing the ruling BJP of disregarding sentiments of Dalits, who are followers of Ravidas, he alleged that “children of the dalits were taken into custody for no reason”.
