- HT Correspondent

ROHTAK : A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) woman supporter was booked on Monday for cheating a man of ₹7.5 lakh on the pretext of providing his nephew a government job.

In his complaint to the police, Sombir Singh said Poonam Boora had claimed to be a BJP leader and niece of state transport minister Krishan Lal Panwar and promised to get him a conductor’s job through her ‘connections’.

“She had promised a conductor’s job to my nephew Kunal in Haryana government in lieu of ₹7.5 lakh”, he alleged.

He said Boora, who branded herself as a BJP leader, visited his village during 2014 polls and asked people to contact her for getting a government job.

In 2017, Kunal had applied for the job after being assured by the accused. “She took ₹7.5 lakh from us. Our dreams were shattered when Kunal’s name did not appear in the final list of recruitment services. When we demanded our money back, she threatened to frame us in a false case,” Singh said.

The complainant said he had directly deposited the money in the accused’s bank account and have sufficient proof to prove their case. An audio had also surfaced on social media in which the complainant and the accused are heard discussing the case.

Station house officer at Civil Lines police station, Naresh Kumar, said a case under Section 420 (cheating ), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Boora.
