Cong presents united face on Khattar’s turf

- HT Correspondent

KARNAL: The Congress on Sunday presented a united face at chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s Karnal constituency as state party chief Kumari Selja and former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda jointly addressed a meeting of party workers and asked them to work for the party’s victory in the coming assembly elections. Both Selja and Hooda targeted the BJP for the “increasing unemployment and crisis in the automobile sector”.

Addressing workers of Karnal Lok Sabha constituency, Selja accused the BJP of failure to deliver on its promises and said the rising unemployment was a major problem in the state.

“The people of the state were fed up with the false promises of the BJP and they were waiting for the elections to teach them a lesson,” said Selja.

Hooda said, “Due to rising unemployment, highly educated youth had to apply for Group D posts and many of them later quit their jobs.”

He added that the state’s automobile industry was reeling due to wrong policies of the BJP.

Hooda alleged that most of the 154 promises made by the BJP during the last elections remain unfulfilled. Talking to the media, Hooda said the Congress will form the next government in Haryana as people are fed up of the BJP. “Our target is to achieve absolute majority and we will get it,” he added.

Meanwhile, the former CM reiterated that he was in favour of implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Haryana and said the law of land should be implemented. However, Selja said the NRC was not an issue in Haryana.

“The BJP is raising the NRC issue to divert the attention of people from its failures. NRC is not an issue in Haryana,” she added. Replying to a question about differences among Congress leaders in Haryana, Hooda said they would all work together. He also announced to withdraw amended Motor Vehicles Act from the state if the Congress is voted to power. Later, Selja and Hooda called on protesting guest teachers and members of the Ravidas community and extended their support to them.
