DSP Sekhon calls Bains ‘power hungry’, LIP chief slams claim

- HT Correspondent

LUDHIANA: Already embroiled in a bitter conflict for allegedly snubbing deputy commissioner Batala Vipul Ujwal following the death of 24 persons in the firecracker tragedy, MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains today found himself in yet another controversy after DSP Punjab police Balwinder Singh Sekhon, complainant in the Change of Land Use (CLU) scam, accused Lok Insaaf Party chief of being ‘power hungry’.

Sekhon took to social media, saying that Bains, who started his political career in Janta Nagar area, exploited his power due to the backing of the Badals. He also said that Bains aspires to be the chief minister of the state.

Simarjit Bains, who was denied bail from local court, slammed Sekhon’s claims saying that “the cop may have lost his mental balance”. Bains claimed that he had met Sekhon once for a brief period when the cop was seeking his support for targeting food and civil supply minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu.

“If Sehkon has some damning evidence against me he should complain to the government as I am currently the biggest enemy of CM Amarinder Singh. And if the government does not listen to Sekhon, then he could approach the media,” said Bains. He said Sekhon had been embroiled in a controversy. “Today I learnt that he was also dismissed from service and later reinstated,” said Bains.

THE CLU SCAM

Balwinder Singh Sekhon, who was DSP, municipal corporation earlier during the year, inquired into the alleged Grand Manor Homes CLU land scam and submitted the report to then local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu in February. He had claimed he was threatened by cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Congress leader Kamaljit Singh Karwal.
