MANSA: A day after a 25-year-old lost his life after his bike collided with a stray bull near Jawaharke village in Mansa, his family have still not cremated his body. Kin of the Sunny Singh, who was a daily-wage labourer, is sitting in protest on the road in front of the village gurdwara. They are demanding a compensation of Rs 10 lakh and government service to one of his kin.
His grieving mother Baljeet kaur said, “A year ago, my husband passed away due to cancer. After him, my son was my only source of income. Now who will look after his two children?”
Ajhijeet Kaplish, sub divisional magistrate (SDM) of Mansa visited the family on Sunday and offered to provide them an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh and a contractual job on DC rates to the wife of the deceased. However, the family has rejected the administration’s offer.
The SDM said, “Since it’s a big loss to the family, apart from the ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh and a contractual job to the deceased’s wife, the administration can arrange for the education of the two children in a good school.”
Jawaharke’s sarpanch, Tarlochan Singh said, “Administrative officials have assured the family of an ex-gratia and a job to Sunny’s wife. We are also discussing the issue at the village level.”
