AMRITSAR : Kin of those killed in the scrap blast at a house in Luv Kush Nagar area here on Monday staged a protest at Putlighar Chowk on Grand Trunk road seeking fair probe, government job and adequate compensation to the victims’ families.

Two persons were killed and five injured in the blast at a house with the scrap brought from the Sadar police station. However, the police have claimed that the house in which the blast took place is a shop of the scrap dealer. The neighbours were holding cops responsible as the scrap material was brought from the police station.

Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh had announced to give ₹2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased. Besides, the state government will bear treatment expenses of the injured.

Meanwhile, the kin of the victims along with other residents of the locality blocked the road for around two hours and saying the compensation is not adequate and the amount should be enhanced to ₹10 lakh. They said government job should also be given to the kin of the victims on compassionate ground. The blockade was lifted after Punjab cabinet minister OP Soni assured them to meet their demands. Soni also visited Guru Nanak Dev Hospital to enquire about the health of the injured persons.

Earlier, a team of forensic expert visited the blast spot to collect samples. The enquiry is being carried out by deputy commissioner of police (investigation) Jagmohan Singh, said Sukhchain Singh Gill, commissioner of Police (CP).
