AFTER THE POLL CODE CAME INTO FORCE ON SEPTEMBER 21, ROHTAK DC HAD ORDERED REMOVAL OF PUBLICITY MATERIAL

ROHTAK: Even as the model code of conduct is already in force for the October 21 assembly elections, hoardings and posters of different partiescanstillbeseen in the city.

After the poll code came into force on September 21, Rohtak deputy commissioner RS Verma had issued orders to remove publicity material, including hoardings, banners and posters, within 72 hours.

Hoardings highlighting the achievements of the state government, carrying pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other leaders, are still rampant even as some of them were removed.

Posters of Congress leader and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Aam Aadmi Party chief Naveen Jaihind can also be seen near D-park and bus stand, respectively.

Posters carrying pictures of BJP leaders, including the Prime Minister, can be seen on buses owned by saffron party leader Balraj Kundu, which ferry girl students from nearby villages to Maharishi Dayanand University here free of cost.

Former MLA and Congress leader Sant Kumar slammed at the government, accusing the administration of playing into the hands of the BJP. “The rulling party and its leaders are violating the model code of conduct and the election commission seems reluctant in initiating action against them,” he said.

On Tuesday, a Congress delegation comprising Hooda, party’s Haryana chief Kumari Selja and a few central leaders had complained against the alleged code violations by the BJP as the party had sent appreciation letters to peasants and youths on the behalf of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

When contacted, Rohtak deputy commissioner RS Verma said they were removing the publicity material.“we have also issued notices to a few persons. We will inspect the areas and take action against the violators,” Verma said.
