Co-op society secretary booked for embezzleme­nt

RAJINDER, WHO WAS POSTED AS SECRETARY OF A CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY IN GIDDERBAHA HAD SIPHONED OFF ₹28.97 LAKH

MUKTSAR: The Gidderbaha police have booked Rajinder Singh, a secretary in a co-operative society, for embezzleme­nt of Rs 14.74 lakh.

Gidderbaha co-operative department assistant registrar Rajan Gurbakhsh Rai, who filed a police complaint in this regard, said, “Rajinder, who was posted as secretary of a co-operative society in Gidderbaha, was transferre­d to Chatteana village last year. He was reluctant to provide the records of the society accounts. During the investigat­ion, we found that he had siphoned off Rs 28.97 lakh. He later deposited ₹14.23 lakh, but was reluctant to give the pending ₹14.74 lakh. Rajinder has already been suspended.”

Gidderbaha police registered a case against Rajinder under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started investigat­ions. CHANDIGARH: British-sikh reality television star Rav Bansal has been targeted for being a gay.

Bansal, a Sikh who recently came out in public about his sexuality, received a letter accusing him of “lustful behaviour” that is prohibited by Sikhism.

Bansal, who was last seen as a contestant on “Great British Bake Off’ in 2016, took to Twitter to post the letter, written anonymousl­y by someone who claimed to be a member of the Sikh community.
