PUNJABI SINGER HAS COURTED CONTROVERSY AFTER HE SUPPORTED ONE NATION, ONE LANGUAGE POLICY OF THE CENTRAL GOVT

AMRITSAR : The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday ordered an inquiry after Gurdas Maan, who courted controversy by supporting ‘one nation one language’, was offered ‘siropa’ at a gurdwara in Sultanpur Lodhi, on Friday.

After returning from Canada, Maan along with his family on Thursday has gone to Gurdwara Ber Singh to pay obeisance. The singer performed sewa of cleaning utensils in langar (community kitchen) of the gurdwara and also offered money. For offering money, ‘siropa’ was given to him at the gurdwara.

As the gurdwara is managed by the SGPC, the gurdwara body has come under fire. SGPC has tasked Mahinder Singh Ahli, secretary (section 85 gurdwaras) of the gurdwara body, with the probe. “Whoever is found guilty of offering siropa to Maan, action will be taken against him,” said Roop Singh, SGPC chief secretary.

Singh told that the SGPC has a clear stand on the row pertaining to Maan and it had strongly condemned Maan’s act which is ‘betrayal’ with the mother tongue of Punjabi. “Until Maan does not tender an apology to entire Punjabi community for his act, the SGPC will remain firm on its stand,” he said.

SGPC is the institution that follows edicts and ‘maryada’ of Akal Takht Sahib and If any of its official or employee hurts image of the institution or Sikh sentiments, this cannot be tolerated at any cost, he added.
