JAMMU:POLICE on Friday detained four persons after a teenage girl belonging to the minority community was allegedly abducted in Rajouri district.

Rajouri senior superintendent of police (SSP) Yougal Manhas said, “Police have so far detained four persons for their involvement in a case of abduction of a teenaged girl. A SIT team headed by deputy superintendent of police Surinder Khadyar has also been constituted to investigate the matter.”

“The girl is a resident of a village in Rajouri and has been abducted by a boy from Manhas Mohalla Jawahar Nagar in Rajouri,” he added.

The SSP, however, refused to divulge the identities of the kidnapper and those detained.

“Family members of the girl lodged a complaint, following which a case under relevant sections of law was registered,” he said.

“People are requested to stop paying attention to rumours and co-operate with the police in investigating the matter,” the SSP said. “The family members of the girl staged a protest and blocked Rajouri-poonch national highway on Friday morning for almost four hours.they accused police of inaction and shielding the accused, who belongs to a majority community and has allegedly kidnapped the girl,” a local said, adding that the girl was allegedly kidnapped four days ago.

Sardar Jasvir Singh, president of Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Chattipadhshahi, Rajouri said, “We have served an ultimatum to the police to trace and get back the girl by 12:00pm on Saturday. If they do not fulfill our demand, protests will be held across all districts including Jammu. A police official rushed to the spot and pacified the angry protestors, who then lifted the blockade.
