Sultanpur Lodhi readies for grand show
Govt going full steam ahead with projects; all major gurdwaras getting a facelift, villages visited by Guru being spruced up
spread across town, the nawab’s spies reported a ‘confused’ state of affairs at the commissariat and of gross negligence by the Guru. The accounts of the commissariat of the Guru and Jai Ram were thoroughly checked; no wrong doing was found.
Accommodation for devotees is being built with three storeys completed, said a SGPC official.
KOTHRI SAHIB GURDWARA
After complaints of ‘misappropriation’ at stores, Guru Nanak was summoned by accountant general Jadu Rai. Even when it was found that the state owed money to him, the Guru asked the official to distribute it to the needy and resigned from his post.
The place where Guru Nanak was detained has been named Kothri Sahib gurdwara.
GURU KA BAGH GURDWARA
The place where Guru Nanak lived after his marriage was named as Guru Ka Bagh gurdwara. It was here his two sons Baba Sri Chand and Baba Lakhmi Das were born. The Darbar sahib building of Gurdwara Sri Guru Ka Bagh was built by the Baba Subeg Singh Kar Sewawale and launched in August.
SRI ANTARYAMTA GURDWARA
This gurdwara is located at the site of the mosque where the Guru was invited by the nawab Daulat Khan to participate in namaz. Guru Nanak stood aside realising that the nawab and qazi were only going through the motions of the namaz as their minds were engrossed in otherworldly thoughts.
On why he did not participate, the Guru informed the nawab of their wayward thoughts during the prayer. Five rooms have been newly constructed for devotees.
BEBE NANKI GURDWARA
This gurdwara has been made at the place which was once the house of the Guru’s sister Bebe Nanki and her husband, Jairam. The Guru stayed here after arriving at Sultanpur Lodhi till the time he was married.
