Pregnant woman among 5 killed in 2 mishaps in Hisar

HISAR : Five people, including a pregnant woman and her mother, were killed and 12 others injured in two road accidents in Hisar district, police said on Thursday.

A government ambulance rammed into a road divider near Balak Chopta village on late Wednesday night, killing a 22-year-old pregnant woman, identified as Ramrati Devi, her mother Maya Devi (48) and driver Chain Singh (38) on the spot. Chander Bhan, police spokespers­on said, “Maya Devi had taken her daughter Ramrati, who had developed labour pains, to Barwala government hospital. The doctors referred her to Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha. As the ambulance carrying them reached near Balak Chopta, it collided with a divider.”

Ramrati’s husband Deepak and ambulance attendant Satpal were injured in the incident and were rushed to Agroha Medical College for treatment.

Eyewitness said the ambulance driver lost control over the vehicle as he was driving it at a high speed.

In another accident, two labourers were killed and 10 others injured after a speeding truck rammed into an autoricksh­aw near Bhatla village under Hansi subdivisio­n on Thursday morning.

The deceased identified as Dilbagh Singh, 35, and Ravi Kumar, 40, belonged to the said village. The injured were admitted to Hisar civil hospital. The truck driver fled the spot after the accident.

Hansi sadar SHO Kanwar Singh said a case under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence), among others, has been registered against the unknown truck driver. Police are looking out for the accused, he added.
