MEA TO OPEN PASSPORT SEWA KENDRA AT DERA BABA NANAK
AMRITSAR: Since a passport has been made mandatory for the pilgrimage through Kartarpur corridor, ministry of external affairs (MEA) has proposed to open post office passport sewa kendra (POPSK) at Dera Baba Nanak, a border town where the corridor is being constructed.
Punjab jails and cooperation minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa who is an MLA from Dera Baba Nanak, has confirmed the development as the decision was taken in an October 1 meeting under chairmanship of Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh.
Notably, the government has taken this decision after demand was raised to open this kendra for convenience of the common people.
TRICOLOUR AT A HEIGHT OF 300 FT
At the passenger terminal being built at Dera Baba Nanak for Kartarpur corridor, a 90 feet x 60 feet national flag will be hoisted at a height of 300 ft on Wednesday.
This will be fifth one among five tallest tricolours in the country. The pole for the flag was erected on Tuesday and a rehearsal was also conducted. The 90 x 60 feet flag will be made of nylon used to make parachutes, so that it remains unaffected by high velocity winds at the extraordinary height,” said an engineer .
sticking point, the people said.both countries are expected to hold events on November 9 to mark the opening of their sections of the corridor, which will link Dera Baba Nanak in India’s Gurdaspur to Darbar Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan’s Kartarpur, days ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
The people said the Union home ministry is now the nodal body in India for the corridor as the negotiations have been concluded, and it will supervise all arrangements and launch a website for the online registration of pilgrims.
