2 held with 7.5kg heroin, retd soldier helped them: Police

AMRITSAR : The two persons, who were arrested with 7.5 kg heroin smuggled from across the border near Kakkar village of Ajnala sub-division, were assisted by a retired army man, said police on Tuesday.

Crime investigat­ion agency (CIA) wing of Amritsar rural police had arrested Major Singh and Gurdev Singh of Kakkar village after a tip-off on Monday. Later, at their instance, police recovered 7.5 kg heroin concealed in a tractor battery from across the fence at India-pakistan border.

Inspector general of police (IGP), border range, SPS Parmar said the two peddlers were assisted by Prabhjit Singh of Kakkar village, who retired from Indian army two months ago, and was now absconding.

Senior superinten­dent of police (Ssp-rural) Vikramjit Singh Duggal said, “They disclosed that Gurdev had been in touch with a Pakistani smuggler Khodar, and had cleared consignmen­ts earlier too.” Police are now investigat­ing as to where the earlier contraband

was sent in the country.

TWO HELD WITH 310 GM HEROIN, RS 17 L DRUG MONEY IN TARN TARAN

TARN TARAN: Two persons were arrested on Tuesday with 310 gm heroin and Rs 17.40 lakh drug money from Bhagiari bridge in the district. The accused Balvinder Singh of village Amishah and Shamsher Singh of village Daliri, both under Tarn Taran district.

Superinten­dent of police (investigat­ion) Tarn Taran, Jagjit Singh Walia said that when two persons apprehende­d at Bhagiari bridge were checked, police recovered 310gm heroin and Rs 17.40 lakh drug money. A case has been registered against the two accused at Jhabal police station under the NDPS Act, he added.

“It was also revealed that gangsters of Davinder Bombiha group, who were involved in the murder of gangster Dilbag Singh of Patti in 2016, used to visit Balvinder’s house. Therefore, a case under sections 212 and 216 A of IPC has also been registered against Balvinder,” said the SP.
