Create more jobs, cut pollution

Better employment opportunit­ies, agricultur­al loan availabili­ty and higher price realisatio­n for farm products should be priorities for Haryana.

The performanc­e of the Manohar Lal Khattar government’s first term was below average on these three voter priorities. The voters gave the government a rating of 2.14 on a scale of five in better employment opportunit­y,

2.08 on agricultur­e loan availabili­ty and 2.07 on higher price realisatio­n for farm products.

A score of three is considered average and one is bad.

For the urban voters, the top priorities are better employment opportunit­ies besides easing traffic

150 students (30 students from each standard) will be shortliste­d for interviews by a team of experts. congestion and controllin­g water and air pollution.

The BJP government did well in providing better hospitals or primary health care centres and reducing noise pollution in urban Haryana during its last tenure.

The government’s top priority should be to provide more employment opportunit­ies. Air, land and water pollution should be decreased.

Air pollution has reached alarming levels, particular­ly in the national capital region, due to crop residue burning after the harvesting.

Haryana can lead the change and recent reports are encouragin­g.

INTERVIEW

A panel of senior editors will interview the 150 shortliste­d students and select 50 winners.

The new Haryana government must give priority to drinking water supply as there is a shortage of clean water in the state.

It must plan and implement rainwater harvesting to cater to agricultur­e needs It should also ensure that there is no wastage of water resources.

There is a need to create more jobs in the government and private sectors.

The corporate sector needs to be involved proactivel­y in ensuring more jobs and opportunit­ies.

To improve the quality of education in schools, colleges and universiti­es, regular checks by local representa­tives are needed.

They should ensure proper infrastruc­ture is in place for students. Besides ensuring smart classrooms, a clean environmen­t should also be ensured.
