AYODHYA CASE: HONOUR THE VERDICT
Now when a five-judge bench headed by the chief justice of India has ruled that there are no grounds for review of the November 9 judgment of the Supreme Court on the Ayodhya issue, both the sides should honour the verdict in letter and spirit. The apex court had awarded 2.27 acres of the disputed site in Ayodhya for the Ram temple and ordered that five acres be allotted for the mosque at an alternative site. Now is the time to promote communal harmony. The land for the mosque should be allotted in consultation with the representatives of Muslim organisations. The verdict should be implemented in a spirit of brotherhood and harmony.
Usha Verma, Chandigarh sphere around the globe. The election of Punjab-origin candidates as members of Parliament in England is not only a matter of pride for us, but it also shows that they have won the hearts of voters of their respective parliamentary constituencies with their dedicated hard work. The people of UK have bestowed their trust in Punjab-origin candidates, which, indeed, shows their tremendous goodwill. In the recent parliamentary elections in Canada also, a number of Punjab–origin candidates emerged victorious and some of them even got ministerial berths in the Justin Trudeau cabinet.

child rape incidents in India, the number of cases has risen by 400% during the period between 2001 and 2017. In Haryana, four children are raped every day on an average. In the Western world, child sexual abuse has come down by more than 50% over the last two decades. Rape happens due to moral degradation in society. India has become the fourth most unsafe place for women in the world. I think the government must ensure death penalty for child rapists.
Rajiv Boolchand Jain,
Zirakpur filed an appeal in the Supreme Court on the ground that the air is highly polluted in the national capital and it will automatically cut short his life, so there is no need to hang him. What a flimsy ground for seeking review of death sentence! Appeals of this kind are normally filed by convicts suffering from serious ailments. The honourable court must reject this appeal at the earliest and reprimand the advocate concerned for citing such a frivolous ground in a sensitive case.
SP Gupta, Panchkula roof, but dwindling interest rate on bank deposits is eroding the income of non-pensionable elderly persons. The government must not lower interest on small saving schemes, but instead remove or double the ceiling on deposits in schemes for the elderly, besides paying extra interest on other instruments and saving accounts to senior citizens.
