GNDU students protest in solidarity
AMRITSAR: As the new citizenship law has triggered a countrywide agitation, the students of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) on Tuesday came out to protest against the violence unleashed by Delhi police on students at Jamia Millia Islamia University and Aligarh Muslim University.
Chanting the slogans of ‘long live students’ unity’ , the protesting students termed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as divisive and dangerous for the society.
They were carrying placards displaying ‘Students of GNDU stands with Jamia and AMU’ and ‘we condemn police barbarism on Jamia students’.
The protests, led by various students’ union, including Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) president Paramjit Singh Mand, Research Scholar Association (GNDU) leader Jatinderbir Singh and Students For Society leader Shubhkaramdeep Singh and Phule-ambedkar Student Association, slammed the BJP led
Union government for its ‘fascists’ policies and letting Delhi police take law into their hands.
‘COUNTRY HEADING TOWARDS CIVIL WAR’
“The country is heading towards civil war. The absolute majority has gone to the heads of Modi -Shah. They are behaving like
dictators, said Mand.
‘NEW LAW AGAINST MINORITIES’
“Is this the way state behaves with students studying in its educational institutions?” asked, the protesters, adding that the visuals show the extent of barbarism of police chasing, beating and hurling abuses on girls and boys of Jamia and Aligarh Muslim Universities. “We stand with Jamia and AMU students and support the cause too. The new law is against minorities and must be rejected. The Union government led by RSS-BJP is spreading its agenda of Hindutva in country,” said the protesters.
