AMRITSAR: The parents of students of a private school at Beas, 40 kms from Amritsar, remained adamant on their demand of a criminal case against the school management as their protest entered second day on Tuesday against the rape of a Class 2 girl by a Class 10 student.

On Tuesday, the protesters were joined by leaders and workers of various farmers and labourer unions. They said their protest will continue until the police register a first information report (FIR) against the school management .

“The school management didn’t take any action against the accused. He (accused) even attended class after committing the crime. It was only after the complaint of girl’s mother that the action was taken by the police. The school management tried their best to cover up the matter by causing disappearance of evidence, like CCTV footage” said Baldev Singh Sirsa of Lok Bhalai Insaf Welfare Society.

Meanwhile, the special investigation team (SIT) constituted by Amritsar-rural SSP, Vikramjit Singh Duggal, on Tuesday begun its investigation to probe the school’s role. SIT in-charge Amandeep Kaur said, “We are taking statements of the school staff. Even, the footages of the CCTVS installed on the school premises are being scanned. The probe will complete in timebound manner.”

On Monday, the protesters had blocked Amritsar-delhi national highway. On Tuesday evening, they held a candle march in Rayya town.

The police have registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and Section 8 of the POCSO Act against the accused on the complaint of mother.
