JALANDHAR: Balachaur municipal council of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district has failed to seal an unauthorised marriage palace owned by local Congress MLA Darshan Lal Mangupur for violating terms of marriage palace policy of Punjab government. Besides Mangupur’s Chaudhary Palace, two other palaces — Bajaj Milan and Four Seasons— palaces were also to be sealed.
In September, local department regional deputy director, Jalandhar, had issued orders to Balachuar MC to seal the three marriage palaces, including which are not regularised as per the ‘marriage palace policy’ of the government.
Local department’s letter reads that if the owners were found running palaces without regularisation, their water connection should be disconnected and buildings be sealed.
On September 16, a team headed by junior engineer of the MC gave a report that they have sealed the marriage palaces and directed the owners not to hold any function and make any change in building structure.
