MUKTSAR: Rural development and panchayats minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa on Tuesday said that political conference held by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is a violation of the edict of Akal Takht. Maghi Mela is organised to remember 40 Sikhs (chalis mukte) who had laid down their lives fighting the Mughal army in 1705.

The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party refrained from holding political rallies. Bajwa, along with other local Congress leaders, paid obeisance at the gurdwara.

“The life of 40 muktas guides the Sikh sangat. The act of holding political conference by the SAD is a violation of Akal Taht’s edict. It has hurt the sentiments of Sikhs. The political parties should refrain from politicising such events,” said Bajwa.

Former AAP MP from Faridkot Sadhu Singh and some local leaders also paid obeisance to the martyrs. Lok Insaaf Party leader Balwinder Singh took part in a cleanliness drive.

The panchayats minister also inaugurated robotic machine project for cleaning sewage manholes. “The technique will bring a new revolution in the field. After the success of the pilot project here, it will be implemented in other districts also,” he added. Talking to mediapersons, the panchayat minister said that Citizen Amendment Act discriminates against some religious groups, including Muslims. “The high electricity tariffs in state are the result of the Mous signed by the previous SAD-BJP government,” said Bajwa.
