LUDHIANA: A local court on Thursday sentenced a 45-yearold tuition teacher to seven-year imprisonment in a case of sexual assault on a minor boy.

The court of additional district and sessions judge Tarn Taran Singh Bindra convicted Rajesh Kumar Singla, a Samrala resident, under Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.

The accused has also been held guilty of threatening the boy under section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

The victim’s father complained to the police in October 2016 that his son, a class-7 student then, used to take tuitions from Singla. The accused allegedly showed the boy some porn movies and sodomised him, as per the complaint.

Singla also threatened the boy of dire consequences if he disclosed the incident to anyone.

The boy’s father told the court that the Samrala police paid no heed to his complaint following which he had to approach the Khanna SSP who then marked an inquiry into the matter and a case was finally registered against the accused on June 14, 2017, after taking a legal opinion.

After the complaint was moved to the SSP, the statements of the minor boy were recorded which corroborated the complaint of sexual assault against the teacher.

The victim’s father also alleged that the teacher used to openly threaten him and his son. He also said that Singla had lodged a false complaint against him and his son.
