DELHI RIOTS A BLOT ON OUR SOCIETY

-

The riots that began from a clash between anti-citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and procaa protesters have turned into a communal battle between Hindus and Muslims which reminded Delhi of the setback it had suffered in 1984. While the city was burning, the matter of concern for children has been put aside. The attack of mobs on anybody who looks like a Muslim, looting and vandalising shops and houses is a shame on our society. When the Nazis were killing the Jews and burning their properties, they also thought they were doing it for their motherland. Such hatred should have no place in our country.

Perminder Kaur, Patiala burning of public property. The Delhi Police’s inept handling of the matter and some BJP MPS’ speeches led to the burning situation. It is high time the army steps in to control the mobs and save Delhi from burning.

Arvinder Kaur, Mohali issuing threats of physical elimination to the protesters. Neither the political leadership nor the bureaucracy took the initiative of diffusing the situation. It seems, from the news pouring in, that the miscreants are being given a free hand. It was crime for security forces to stand like mute spectators when acts of loot and arson were taking place on a large scale.

Paramjit Singh, Patiala burning. A Delhi Police head constable had to sacrifice his life while controlling the tense situation. Besides, nine more citizens along with hundreds including police personnel were injured. The Union government under whose control, the Delhi police as well as the entire law and order machinery works has virtually failed to check the situation that has turned from protests to riots. Our intelligence agencies and the Delhi Police under home minister Amit Shah are squarely to be blamed for this devastating situation. Shah must resign immediately.
