KARNAL: Sports coach of a private school has been arrested for raping, molesting and blackmailing at least five minor girl students in Shahbad town of Kurukshetra district.

The accused has been identified as Gurmail Singh of Kishangarh village in the district.

Police said the matter came to light on March 9 when parents of five girl students in the age group of 12 to 16 years filed a complaint at the Kurukshetra Women Police Station, accusing Gurmail of raping, molesting and sending obscene videos, photos and messages to their daughters.

A Class-8 student alleged the accused recently sent an obscene message to her and she confided this in her parents, who, along with others, filed the police complaint. Kurukshetra SP Astha Modi said, “Five girl students have filed the complaint against the coach, one accusing him of rape and others alleging molestation, blackmailing and sending obscene messages.” She said the mobile phone of the accused has been sent for investigation. The accused has been booked under the relevant sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and Indian Penal Code.

Women police station in-charge Sunita Rawat said a local court sent the accused to judicial custody. Investigations are on, she said.

MAN BOOKED

FOR RAPING 15-YEAR-OLD SISTER

GURUGRAM: A man was booked for allegedly raping his 15-year-old sister at their Sohna residence for over a year, the police said on Wednesday.

The police said that as the girl’s family did not listen to her repeated complaints about the alleged assaults, she fled home and reported the incident to the police with the help of a passerby.

In the police complaint, the girl, who is the youngest among five siblings, said that her brother had been sexually assaulting for at least 12 months. “When I told my family about the assault, they threatened me and asked me to remain quiet. I was disturbed and hence, ran away to my maternal aunt’s house,” she said in the FIR, adding that she does not wish to return home.
