4 LET, Hizb militants killed in Anantnag encounter

SRINAGAR:FOUR militants, including a Lashkar-e-taiba district commander, were killed in a gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday, officials said.

They said a joint party of police, army and the CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Dar Mohalla Watarigam area of Dialgam in Anantnag district after getting inputs about presence of militants.

Police spokespers­on Manoj Kumar said during the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the joint search party. “The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the encounter, four terrorists were killed,” he said.

The slain militants were identified as Let’s Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat and Omar Ameen Bhat, both residents of Sopat Tangpora in Kulgam district and Sajad Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Tengbal Frisal. The fourth militant, Gulzar Ahmed Bhat, was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen and was a resident of Kulgam’s Hirpora Tarigam.

“Two AK 47 rifles, two pistols, ammunition and other incriminat­ing materials were recovered from the site of encounter,” the spokespers­on said.

“Muzzafar, a district commander of LET, had a history of terror crime cases since 2017. He was involved in seven different cases under Section 7/25 of the Arms Act, 302 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 18, 19, 20, 39 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,” he said.

Gulzar Ahmad Bhat was involved in a case under section 13, 18, 38, 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

“Sajad Ahmad was also involved in a case under sections 13, 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and three FIRS were registered against Omar under the Act,” the spokespers­on said.

On Friday, a militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir’s Sopore. Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Sopore, was associated with the LET and had joined militancy only seven days before his death. Bhat was one among the four youths who had gone missing this month in Sopore.

MILITANT HELD IN BARAMULLA

A militant was arrested during a cordon and search operation in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday.

The militant was identified as Danish Kakroo, resident of Chesti Colony in Baramulla, a police official said.

In a separate incident, police apprehende­d two persons from Alstop Mirbazar in Kulgam district of South Kashmir.

One of them has been identified as Parveez Ahmad Mantoo, a resident of Khudwani Kulgam, while the identity of the other is being ascertaine­d, the official said. He said police recovered a pistol, three grenades and some cash from them.
