SIT books 11 colleges in scholarshi­p scam

THERE ARE TWO SITS OF POLICE PROBING THE SCAM FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS OF THE U’KHAND HIGH COURT

DEHRADUN: A special investigat­ion team (SIT), in its ongoing probe into the multi-crore Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) scholarshi­p scam, on Sunday booked 11 colleges on charges of fraud for allegedly receiving ₹12.50 cr as scholarshi­p from the state social welfare department through fraudulent ways.

The SIT also arrested an accused couple involved in the scam.

According to police, all the cases were registered in police stations of Haridwar district.

The colleges booked were identified as Srimati Kiran Institute of Management and Technology, Ranipur Private

ITI, Om Santosh Paramedica­l Pvt ITI, Krishna Institute of Technology, Krishna Industrial Training Institute, Bharti PVT ITI, Bhartiya Mahavidyal­aya, Guru Nanak Education Trusts Group of Institutio­n, Roorkee Business School, BRD Pvt ITI, BRD College of Management Sciences and Roorkee Institute of Advance Studies, all in Haridwar.

Manjunath TC, superinten­dent of police, Haridwar (crime), who is leading the SIT, said the colleges were booked after the

SIT found them of fraudulent­ly receiving scholarshi­p money from 2011-12 to 2016-17.

“During the probe it was found that all these colleges mentioned fake admissions of college to receive scholarshi­p money.

“When we questioned the students mentioned on their admissions, they refused to have ever studied in them. It was then police decided to registered separate cases against all the colleges in Haridwar,” said Manjunath.
