Five accused sent to 15-day judicial custody

JAMMU: The National Investigat­ion Agency (NIA) court here on Monday granted 15-day judicial remand of five accused involved in the Pulwama terror attack that took the lives of 50 Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) personnel on February 14 last year.

A NIA court in Jammu has sent Shakir Bashir, Peer Tariq and his daughter Insha Jahan, Abbas Rather, Waiz-ul-islam to 15-day judicial remand, officials said.

On March 7, the NIA had arrested Waiz ul Islam, a resident of Srinagar and Mohammad Abbas Rather, a resident of Hakripora area in Pulwama district.

Islam had used his Amazon shopping account to procure chemicals used for making IEDS, batteries and other accessorie­s on the directions of Jaishe-mohammad (JEM) terrorists.

He personally delivered the items to the Jaish-e-mohammad terrorists after procuring the incriminat­ing material online as a part of the conspiracy to carry out the Pulwama attack.

Rather, a long-time overground worker of the JEM, gave shelter to Jaish terrorist and IED expert Mohammad Umar after he came to Kashmir in April-may 2018. Rather also harboured JEM terrorists, Adil Ahmad Dar (the suicide bomber), Sameer Ahmed Dar and Kamran (Pakistani) at his house a number of times before the Pulwama attack.

He also facilitate­d safe shelter for the JEM terrorists, including the suicide bomber and others, at the house of one of the accused Tariq Ahmed Shah and his daughter Insha Jan. The father-daughter duo were arrested on March 3. As many as 50 Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in the Pulwama terror attack in February last year.
