Srinagar parks shut, man with travel history to Saudi Arabia put in isolation

Ban on assembly of more than four people in most parts of J&K

SRINAGAR/JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir administra­tion on Monday ordered closure of all parks and gardens in Srinagar in order to contain coronaviru­s.

The decision to close parks and gardens was taken by Srinagar deputy commission­er Shahid Choudhary. “We have decided to close down all parks and gardens in the city till further orders and we appeal people to cooperate with the administra­tion,” said the DC.

Meanwhile, government spokesman Rohit Kansal in a late night tweet said another case of a suspect with high viral load has been reported.

“One more case with history of travel to Saudi Arabia reported high viral load; kept in isolation. Confirmati­on awaited,” he said.

After closure of schools, colleges and universiti­es across Kashmir, this is one of the biggest measure to prevent people from gathering at public places. Srinagar city has more than 20 parks and gardens, including famous Mughal garden and Tulip garden, which attract large number of tourists during spring season.

People have dubbed it a good step. “It is good that government has taken this step as only precaution­s can save us. People are still unaware about this disease.the government should take more steps to prevent assembly of people,” said Dr Amjid a medico.

HOTELS CLOSED IN PATNITOP HILL RESORT

As part of efforts to contain the spread of coronaviru­s, the Udhampur district authoritie­s in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday ordered immediate closure of all hotels till March 31 at the popular Patnitop hill resort.

District magistrate Piyush Singla asked the Hotel Management

Authoritie­s of Patnitop to ensure compliance of the directive in “letter and spirit”. He said the decision to close down all hotels falling within the jurisdicti­on of Patnitop Developmen­t Authority was taken as a preventive measure in view of the threat posed by the pandemic.

The prohibitor­y orders banning assembly of more than four persons were imposed in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir till March end.
