RUDRAPUR: Almora Urban-co-operative Bank lodged a complaint against a customer for allegedly committing fraud by falsely claiming that an unidentified person had withdrawn ~10,000 from his account in Khatima town of US Nagar district, said police on Friday.

According to Prem Shankar Chaudhary, senior branch manager in Almora Urban-co-operative Bank, Khatima branch, accused customer Jagdish Nagaryan Sagar, a resident of Bhoor Maholiya village of Khatima had alleged that an amount of ~10,000 had been withdrawn from his account in three instalments.

Chaudhary said, “Sagar had then demanded the amount from bank. We informed the higher authorities regarding the case on which they suggested him to lodge a complaint with police first, but he refused.”

Sagar then told the bank officials that the one who had withdrawn the money was a “known person due to which he doesn’t want to lodge a complaint,” said the branch manager.

“During the internal probe, the claim was found to be a concocted after which we lodged a police complaint as per the RBI guidelines in such cases,” said Chaudhary.

Based on the complaint, the police then registered a case against the accused on charges of fraud. “We have registered a case against the customer on the complaint of bank manager and will soon arrest him,” said Sanjay Pathak, station house officer, Khatima police station.
