111 arrested for curfew violation in Punjab, 232 cases registered

CHANDIGARH:THE Punjab Police on Tuesday registered 232 FIRS and arrested 111 persons for violation of curfew in the state.

While a maximum of 38 FIRS for curfew violation were registered in Mohali, 34 were registered in Amritsar (rural) and 30 each were reported from Tarn Taran and Sangrur, said director general of police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta in a statement.

A maximum of 43 persons were arrested from Tarn Taran while 23 arrests were made in Kapurthala and 15 in Hoshiarpur, followed by Bathinda (13), Ferozepur (5), Patiala (5), Gurdaspur (4) and Ludhiana Rural (2).

The cases for curfew violation from other districts stood at commission­erate of police (CP) Amritsar (14), CP Jalandhar (10), Batala (6), Gurdaspur (4), Patiala (7), Ropar (4), Fatehgarh Sahib (11), Jalandhar Rural (7), Hoshiarpur (9), Kapurthala (4), Ludhiana Rural (2), Mohali (1), Bathinda (3), Ferozepur (7), Moga (4) and Faridkot (1).

No violation of curfew was reported in Pathankot, Barnala, Ludhiana, Fazilka and Mansa. Two cases of violation of quarantine were reported from Muktsar. The DGP said 38,160 police employees were deployed on the ground in districts for enforcemen­t of curfew.

He directed all district police chiefs to ensure that curfew passes are provided on need basis to maintain essential services, including telecom, banks, ATMS, journalist­s, doctors, paramedics, sanitary workers, electricia­ns, plumbers etc.

Gupta suggested out-of-work auto and taxi drivers could also be deployed as delivery boys for door-to-door deliveries.

EX-COUNCILLOR BOOKED FOR MISINFORMA­TION

In Bathinda, former SAD councillor Harjinder Singh Chhinda was among two persons booked for allegedly spreading misinforma­tion through social media.

said Chhinda and Papinder Singh, a journalist, falsely claimed on Facebook that the administra­tion will provide curfew relaxation Tuesday morning.

A report from Bathinda said police also gave ‘murga’ punishment to several youths who violated

curfew restrictio­ns. Some others were asked to do sit-ups.

As a number of city residents were found violating the emergency medical protocol of staying at home, the administra­tion said no relaxation in curfew will be given till Wednesday.
