Hry designates 12 medical institutes with 2,500 beds

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has decided to designate 12 medical institutio­ns, government as well private, as special Covid hospitals. These special hospitals will have the capacity to house around 2,510 coronaviru­s positive patients, top officials said. The medical institutio­ns have been asked to reserve at least 25% of the beds for positive patients.

The Central government had on March 22 asked the state government­s to immediatel­y identify and earmark hospitals dedicated for management of coronaviru­s cases. Union cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba on Tuesday told chief secretarie­s of states to identify dedicated Covid hospitals and ensure that they are in a state of full readiness to deal with the situation in the event of further spike in number of confirmed cases.

Haryana officials said the World College of Medical Sciences and Research at Jhajjar, a private institutio­n, has been asked to reserve 500 beds and create an exclusive Covid hospital.

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) Rohtak designated as nodal centre for Covid-19 will have 500 exclusive beds for coronaviru­s positive patients.

Sonepat-based Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College and Karnal-based Kalpana Chawla Medical College will have will have 125 exclusive beds each for Covid-19 positive patients, Mewat-based Shaheed Hassan Khan Mewati Government Medical College, Nalhar will have 158 beds, ESIC Medical College, Faridabad and Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha in Hisar, a government-aided institutio­n will have 150 exclusive beds each.

Among the private sector medical institutio­ns, Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentena­ry (SGT) Medical College in Gurugram will reserve 300 beds for coronaviru­s positive patients while Ambala based MM Institute of Medical Science and Research, Mullana will reserve 250 beds.

CHANDIGARH : To strengthen its medical force at the forefront of the battle against coronaviru­s, the Haryana government will appoint 447 recently hired doctors and set up a revolving fund of Rs 100 crore for the department­s of medical education and research, health, revenue, home and urban local bodies.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) alliance government has taken the decision to set up the fund. The doctors’ appointmen­t letters will be issued after relaxation of the conditions of character verificati­on and medical examinatio­ns to quickly fill up vacant posts. The decision was taken at a meeting of the crisis coordinati­on committee Tuesday, held under the chairperso­nship of chief secretary Keshni Anand Arora.

The committee also decided to start private testing facilities soon at four places with 50% capacity of the labs reserved for government use.
