SBSNAGAR: Family of the 23-yearold Balachaur youth, who had returned from Sydney and committed suicide at a Delhi hospital last week, blamed the Delhi airport authorities for their son’s death after his reports came out negative for Covid-19.

The family said that they could not even perform proper last rites of their son as the final reports of their son were not shared by the Delhi authorities timely. The family adds that they are yet to receive the reports.

Manjit Singh, father of the deceased, said that irresponsible and hasty behaviour of the New Delhi airport authorities resulted in them losing their son.

“They should have allowed his mother to accompany him to the hospital for moral support. His mother had accompanied him from Australia, they should have let her go to the hospital with him,” he said.

They couldn’t perform his last rites in a proper manner as the local administration did not let them take the body home, Manjit added. Sukhdev Singh, uncle of the deceased, claimed the Safdarjung Hospital and Delhi Police did not share his reports with them. “Our relatives and family did not even get to see his face for the last time as the local police forced us to perform the last rites immediately. Our boy was murdered. The irresponsible behaviour of the airport and hospital authorities led to this loss,” he said.

The deceased’s mother also tested negative for the virus at SBS Nagar. The authorities said they could not risk anything as the situation was already tense in the district.
