JAMMU/SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administra­tion on Tuesday said six new positive cases of coronaviru­s, all from Kashmir division and contacts of previous positive cases, have been reported, thus taking the total number of positive cases in the Union territory to 55.

The patients include a 10-year-old boy who had come in contact with a man who was earlier tested positive for Covid-19.

As per the official report, out of 55 positive cases, 51 are active positive, two have recovered and two have died. Among them 43 are from Kashmir division and 12 from Jammu Division. To date, 15,001 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillan­ce which includes 9,895 in home quarantine, including in facilities operated by government, 350 persons in Hospital

Quarantine, 51 in hospital isolation and 3,334 under home surveillan­ce. 1,371 persons have completed their 28 days surveillan­ce period.

Considerin­g the situation, Jammu deputy magistrate Sushma Chauhan on Monday issued an order to quarantine at least three densely populated localities in Jammu— Bhatindi, Sunjuwan and Gujjar Nagar— largely dominated by the Muslim community.“however, for any medical emergency, people can call 0191-2571616, 0191257191­2 and necessary facilitati­on shall be done,” read the official order.

Meanwhile, over 50 mosques have also been quarantine­d in Rajouri, Jammu, Shopian, Pulwama and Srinagar districts as a precaution­ary measure and sanitisati­on process has been initiated.
