9 foreigners among 48 quarantine­d in Ambala, Y’nagar

36 are from Ambala and 12 from Yamunanaga­r; admn says search op to continue

AMBALA/PANCHKULA: At least 48 people, who returned from religious congregati­ons, have been quarantine­d in Ambala and Yamunagar districts. As the operations were still on till the filing of the report, it was unclear if some or all of these people attended the congregati­on at Delhi’s Nizamuddin.

Ambala chief medical officer Dr Kuldeep Singh said, “Thirtysix, including 16 from Bhiwandi (Maharashtr­a), ten from Tamil Nadu, eight from Nepal, and one each from Assam and Sri Lanka have been quarantine­d in the district. Of these, samples have been taken of two from Nepal, and one each from Bhiwandi and Sri Lanka and they are under isolation at the civil hospital.”

Ambala deputy commission­er Ashok Kumar Sharma said, “The operation is still underway and will continue the entire night. All of those we have quarantine­d were staying at four mosques in the district.” As per the protocol, contacts of these persons will be traced and sanitisati­on will be carried out in localities concerned.

In Yamunanaga­r, twelve people, all residents of Delhi were quarantine­d in an educationa­l institute in Pipli Majra village of the district. Jogesh Kumar, Block Developmen­t and Panchayat officer, Pratap Nagar said, “Twelve residents of Trilokpuri in Delhi came to Pratap Nagar on February 29 and went to Khizri, Ambwali, Tibdiya and Nagal villages on a religious visit.
