20 villages in Kashmir declared as red zone

SRINAGAR:WITH an aim to contain the spread of novel coronaviru­s, the Jammu and Kashmir administra­tion on Tuesday declared 20 villages of Kashmir division as red zones.

“More than one dozen persons affiliated with Tablighi Jamaat had visited Nizamuddin and also attended the religious congregati­on at different places in the state after reaching Kashmir. Currently,

there are three villages in Hajin, one in Ganderbal, two in Shopian and seven in Pulwama, five in Srinagar, two in Budgam which have been declared as red zones and all the positive cases are somehow related to the positive cases of the Tablighi Jamaat,” officials said.

“20 villages, including Parray Mohala Hajin, Chandergee­r Hajin, Batagund Hajin in Bandipora district, Gudoora, Chandgam, Pinglena, Parigam, Abhama, Sangerwani and Khaigam

in Pulwama district, Waskura in Ganderbal, Sedew and Ramnagri in Shopian district, Mehjoor Nagar, Natipora, Lal Bazar, Eidgah and Shalteng in Srinagar district and Chadoora in Budgam district of Kashmir division have been declared as red zones,” said department of informatio­n and public relations, J&K, in a tweet.

At Hajin, eight people affiliated with Tablighi Jamaat have tested positive and four villages- Batagund, SK Bala, Chandeerge­er and

Parray mollah of the township have been declared as red zone and are sealed. “All positive patients had a travel history as they belong to Tablighi Jamaat. Around 200 people are under administra­tive quarantine and more than 600 in home quarantine,” an official from Bandipore district said.“nobody is allowed in or outside the village and all the people who had met the positive patients have been contacted,” another official from Ganderbal district said.
