CHANDIGARH:ALL Chandigarh residents coming from abroad will be quarantined in city hotels.

On Friday, the UT administration had decided that those landing in Delhi will be quarantined there and those landing in Amritsar and Chandigarh airports will be isolated in city hotels on payment basis.

UT adviser Manoj Parida said Friday’s decision was taken after Delhi authorities, who had agreed to keep Chandigarhbound foreign-returned passengers for 12 days, backed off. “So, now, we will bring them in buses and keep them in quarantine facilities here,” he said.

Parida said around 5,000 nonresident Indians are expected but the number may vary. “In initial phase, we will keep quarantine facility ready for about 3,000 and then add depending upon arrival of passengers,” said Parida. He said different level of spaces will be created on payment basis. “Besides CITCO’S Mountview and Shivalikview, other private hotels and community centres are being considered. ” he said

After Parida tweeted the news residents protested about the city being placed at risk. To this, Parida said the passengers will be screened twice as precaution and Covid-19 test may be made mandatory for all NRIS.

Residents of Sectors 10 and 46 have also expressing their reservations to the UT administration against utilising Hotel Mountview and Dhanwantari Ayurvedic Hospital for quarantine as they were both in the midst of the residential areas.
