J&K RECORDS 139 FRESH INFECTIONS, 1 DEATH IN VALLEY

JAMMU:THE UT administra­tion on Wednesday confirmed 139 fresh cases of Covid-19, with 30 from Jammu and 109 in Kashmir division.

The total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir now stands at 2,857.

Apart from this, 54 patients were discharged after recovery from various hospitals, including one person from Jammu division and 53 from Kashmir.

As per the daily bulletin, of 2,857, 1,816 are active cases, while 1,007 have recovered and 34 have died – four in Jammu and 30 in Kashmir division.

Out of the 1,89,364 samples tested, 1,86,507 have turned out negative till June 3, 2020.

Till now, 1,93,145 travellers and contacts of suspected persons have been enlisted for surveillan­ce, which included 44,389 persons in home and institutio­nal quarantine. Total 93,222 persons have completed their surveillan­ce period.

In the districts, Bandipora has 24 active cases after 9 tested positive on Wednesday. Srinagar saw 14 fresh infections taking the total active cases to 169. Anantnag has 193 active cases, Baramulla 161, Shopian 93, Kupwara 222, Budgam 55, Ganderbal 11, Kulgam 264 and Pulwama 92.

Similarly, Jammu witnessed 10 new infections taking its active cases to 124. Udhampur has 45 active cases, Samba has 35, Rajouri 35, Kathua 53, Kishtwar 9, Ramban 137, Reasi 11, Poonch (10 new cases) has 58 active cases, while Doda has 25 active cases.

FOUR CASES IN KANGRA

Kangra deputy commission­er Rakesh Kumar Prajapati said that four men were tested positive in Kangra district.

One returned from Madhya Pradesh and one from Pathankot. The third flew from Delhi by Air India flight on May 29. The trio was under institutio­nal quarantine­d.

The fourth, a taxi driver who was ferrying passengers from Delhi and Chandigarh was put under institutio­nal quarantine on May 25 for violating containmen­t zone orders.

His contacts are being traced, said Prajapati.

SHIMLA, BILASPUR REPORT ONE CASE EACH

One case each was reported in

Shimla and Bilaspur.

A 27-year-old resident of Taklech in Rampur subdivisio­n of Shimla district has tested positive. He had returned from Delhi on May 27 and was put under institutio­nal quarantine in Jeori.

The reports of a 31-year-old man from Bilaspur also came out positive. The man had returned from Delhi in his private vehicle and was institutio­nally quarantine­d at Swarghat.

One 32-year-old ITBP jawan was tested positive for the virus in Una district.

His sample was tested negative in Delhi and was under home quarantine after returning

204 ACTIVE CASES

Special secretary (health) Nipun Jindal said there are now 204 active cases in the state.

Eleven of 12 districts were now affected by the disease. Only Lahaul And Spiti remains Covidfree.so far, the state’s tally is 359 cases with five fatalities - three men and two women. Hamirpur is the worst-hit district with 114 cases followed by Kangra with 94 cases.

A total of 40 cases have been reported in Una, 32 in Solan, 25 in Chamba, 19 in Bilaspur, 17 in Mandi, 10 in Shimla, four in Sirmaur, and two each in Kullu and Kinnaur.

Till date, as many as 146 people have been cured.

‘TAKE ACTION AGAINST PVT LABS’

INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala said it only showed callousnes­s of the government. “It is shocking to know that private labs are not informing the government about testings and positive cases. And, they are even getting away with it. There should be punitive action against such private labs and FIRS should be registered against them,” he added.

Independen­t MLA from Meham, Balraj Kundu, who had withdrawn his support to the BJP-JJP government, said health authoritie­s had no clue about what was happening on the ground. “Anil Vij is an outspoken minister, but his words have no impact. In a crisis like this, people want action,” he added.
