Two militants, one CRPF man killed in Pulwama gunfight
Two rifles, incriminating material found at site
SRINAGAR: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmirontuesday, police said.
Ajointteamofthearmy, police andthecrpflaunchedacordon andsearchoperationatbundzoo in Pulwama after receiving specific information aboutpresence of militants in the area.
IGP (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar said the militants were given an opportunity to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately uponthejoint search party, leading to an encounter. “Two militants werekilledandtheirbodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Theidentificationand affiliation of the slain militants is beingascertained,” hesaid. However, peoplelivingintheareasaid militants killed in theencounters were locals who had joined militancy recently.
Police said a CRPF man receivedcritical gunshotinjuries duringthegunfightandlatersuccumbed.“incriminating materials, including arms (two AK rifles) and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. All the recovered material has been taken into case records for investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes,” apolicespokesmansaid.
Police said the bodies of the slain militants have been sent to Handwaraforlastritesafter conductingmedico-legal formalities, includingcollectionoftheirdna. “Incaseafamilyclaimsthekilled terrorists to be their kith or kin, theycancomeforwardforidentification and participate in last rites at Handwara,” the spokesman said.

Police ontuesdayclaimedthata youth from Srinagar, who went missingduringatrekkingexpedition in Ganderbal, has joined the militant ranks. “He has joined militant ranks. If the parents bringhimbackhome, thetrekker won’t be arrested,” IGP (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar said. The IGP, however, refusedtodivulgemore details about Dar. However, his familyhasdenieddarhavingany links with militants. He was a student of the managementstudies at Kashmir University.
