It is heartening that Vini Mahajan has been appointed the first woman chief secretary of Punjab. But, the HT report mentioned that she was the first woman IAS officer to be appointed as deputy commission­er in the state. This is factually incorrect. GK Sekhon became the first woman deputy commission­er when she was posted in Kapurthala in the 1970s. Dr Amarjit Singh Gill,
