Soldier killed in ceasefire violation in J&K’S Rajouri

58-YR-OLD WOMAN INJURED IN SHELLING IN MENDHAR SECTOR ON JULY 8 SUCCUMBS

JAMMU: A 36-year-old Indian Army personnel was killed in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, officials said on Friday.

The victim, havildar Sambur Gurung, was a resident of Manbu village in the Gorkha district of Nepal. He was critically injured during the unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LOC) and later succumbed to his injuries, the army said in a statement.

Defence spokespers­on Lt Col Devender Anand said, “Gurung was a brave, highly motivated and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty.”

Indian troops responded strongly to the enemy fire, said the statement.

Meanwhile, Hakam Bi , 58, of Lanjote, who was injured during Pakistan shelling in Mendhar sector on July 8 succumbed to her injuries on

Thursday.

60-year-old Resham Bi, had also been killed in the shelling. Last month India lost five of its soldiers on the LOC in Poonch and Rajouri sectors in Pakistani shelling.

BSF HEAD CONSTABLE SUFFERS CARDIAC ARREST, DIES

A Border Security Force (BSF) head constable passed away due to a cardiac arrest in Mendhar area of Poonch district on Friday, officials said.

The victim, Uma Shanker, was a resident of Ghazipur village, Uttar Pradesh.

He was the head constable of the 183 battalion. Shankar suffered cardiac arrest around 08.30am.

His body was shifted to the Poonch district hospital for post-mortem.
