Pak national among two Jaish terrorists killed in Anantnag gunfight

SRINAGAR: : Two Jaish-e-mohammad (JEM) militants, including a Pakistani, were killed while a woman was injured during a gunbattle between the ultras and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.

A joint team of police, army and the CRPF had launched a cordon and search operation in the morning at Srigufwara village after receiving specific input about presence of militants in the area. During the operation, terrorists were given an opportunit­y to surrender, however, they fired indiscrimi­nately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter,’’ a police spokespers­on said.

During the indiscrimi­nate firing by militants, a woman received gunshot injuries. She was shifted to the hospital for treatment where her condition is stated to be stable.

“Two terrorists affiliated with JEM were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. One of the slain terrorist has been identified as Nasir alias Shahbaz alias Baz Bai, a Pakistan resident. He is ‘A’ category terrorist. The identifica­tion of the other slain terrorists is being ascertaine­d,” the spokespers­on said.

Arms and ammunition and other incriminat­ing material were recovered from the site of the encounter.

In view of the Covid-19 situation, the bodies of the militants will be sent to Baramulla for the last rites after conducting medico-legal formalitie­s including the collection of their DNA, the spokespers­on said.
