MAN COMMITS SUICIDE BY JUMPING INTO BEAS IN HP

A 67-year-old man has allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Beas river in Kullu district. On Monday, the man jumped from an old bridge in Bhuntar near Kullu. A rescue operation was launched but his body was found near Larji dam. He was rushed to Regional Hospital, Kullu where he was declared brought dead. Postmortem has been conducted and the body was handed over to his relatives. Kullu SP Gaurav Singh said police are conducting investigat­ion.

V-C Prof Tankeshwar Kumar said the UGC has asked to explore options for fee payment and consider requests of students for giving them relief. “The university has decided that the fees will be collected in two instalment­s from the promoted students for the upcoming semester,” he added. In the first instalment, the students will pay the continuati­on fees plus 50% tuition fee plus 50% total examinatio­n fee and annual fee of Rs 350. Developmen­t funds and other charges will not be charged in the first instalment. The university has waived internet fee amounting to Rs 200 for this year. There is also an option on the portal for students who want to pay the full fees in single instalment. Semester fees can be paid by August 7 without any late fee and with late fee of Rs 10 per day up to August 31.
