RAISED OBJECTION TO THE CONTENTS OF THE JULY 14 ARTICLE DEDICATED BY DSGMC CHIEF AFTER WHICH THE ACTION WAS TAKEN

AMRITSAR: The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, has issued a notice to Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjinder Singh Sirsa for “distorting” historical facts related to 8th Sikh master, Guru Harkrishan, in an article. Hindi newspapers had published the article on July 14 that Sirsa had dedicated to the birth anniversary of the guru, falling on the that day.

Sirsa had shared the clippings of the article on his social media handles.

Sources in the Akal Takht office said some scholars raised objection to the content, after which the action was taken.

The notice sent to Sirsa, which is signed by Jaspal Singh, personal assistant to the Akal Takht jathedar, says, “You are informed that Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar, Akal Takht Sahib, has issued an edict that the facts mentioned in the article authored by you on history of 8th Guru Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib are not as per facts. What is the base of what you have stated in it? You are asked to send its detail.”

“The jathedar directs you to read and understand religious ethos and gurbani properly, before writing and speaking anything.

Without reading and understanding, speaking or writing should be avoided,” the notice adds. Despite the notice, Sirsa’s social media handles continued to carry the clippings of the article till the filing of this report.
