9 fatalities, 17 cops among 604 test positive in Haryana

Death toll reaches 364; 726 patients recover, active cases 6,146; central and three district jails to function as special confinemen­t zones for new male prisoners till receipt of their reports

CHANDIGARH:: Haryana on Tuesday recorded nine deaths and 604 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 27,462, as per the heath bulletin.

Among the new cases are 17 police personnel posted in Karnal district. Karnal district health authoritie­s said the infected cops were posted in Crime Investigat­ion Agency and police lines in the district.

Now, the number of infected police personnel has increased to 26 in the district as six police personnel including a station house officer had tested positive two days ago. Among other infected persons of the district included a 5-year-old girl and four other members of her family.

Gurugram district saw 121 new cases, Faridabad 111, Panipat 94, Ambala 55, Sonepat 41, Karnal 33, Palwal 28, Jhajjar and Panchkula 19 each, Rewari 16, Kurukshetr­a 13, Nuh 12, Yamunanaga­r and Rohtak 10 each, Bhiwani 8, Mahenderga­rh 5,

Fatehabad 4, Jind 3, Sirsa 2.

With nine more fatalities in the state, the death toll has risen to 364, including 265 men and 99 women. While two patients each died in Faridabad, Rohtak and Karnal districts, one person each succumbed to the virus in Jhajjar, Palwal and Panipat districts.

As many as 726 patients were also discharged across 18 districts of the state on Tuesday, raising the tally of those cured to 20,952. Active cases in the state now stand at 6,146 and the case doubling rate improved to 23 days. Jind district has the lowest 10 active cases, Gurugram 1,070 and Faridabad tops the tally with 1,254 active cases. However, the number of critical patients (193) witnessed a sharp rise and of the total critically ill patients 38 were on ventilator­s, the bulletin stated.

Meanwhile, Haryana government has decided to declare one central jail and three district jails as special jails for confinemen­t of new male prisoners remanded to judicial custody till the receipt of their Covid-19 reports.

An official spokespers­on said chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved a proposal in this regard. These special jails will include Central Jail-ii, Hisar and district jails of Faridabad, Karnal and Rewari.

The spokespers­on said a medical officer each besides paramedics will be deputed for examinatio­n and treatment of prisoners at these special jails. It will also be ensured that the medical officers and paramedics are tested for Covid-19 before being deputed.
