US SENATE BODY OKAYS BILL TO BAN TIKTOK ON GOVT DEVICES
WASHINGTON: A US senate panel has approved a bill to bar use of Chinese app Tiktok on government devices, citing fears for the security of users’ personal data.
The No Tiktok on Government Devices Act also bars such devices from downloading any replacement apps developed by Tiktok’s parent company Bytedance. The bill is set become law as the House of Representative had already passed a legislation earlier this week. The senate legislation was introduced by Josh Hawley, who has also moved other measures against China, including one to make Beijing pay for the Covid-19 pandemic.
