Trump sends troops to more cities
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has announced a “surge” in the deployment of federal law enforcement officers to various American cities, starting with Chicago, citing spiralling cases of violent crimes.
“This rampage of violence shocks the conscience of our nation, and we will not stand by and watch it happen,” Trump said on Wednesday.
“Today, I’m announcing a surge of federal law enforcement into American communities plagued by violent crime,” he added.
The CNN, meanwhile, reported that in Portland, mayor Ted Wheeler was teargassed on Thursday morning while he was speaking to protesters.
A video shows Wheeler holding his nose and closing his eyes in distress.
‘FIRST RACIST PRESIDENT’
Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden called Trump the “first racist” to become US president.
“We’ve had racists, and they’ve existed, and they’ve tried to get elected president. He’s the first one.”
