CENTRAL FUNDS FOR MEDICAL COLLEGES

JALANDHAR: The Centre has released the first instalment for the constructi­on of government medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur, which are expected to start operations in 2022. The Centre released ₹33.6 crore and ₹34.1 crore for Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur institutes, respective­ly. The Union health ministry had approved the said colleges last year under a centrally sponsored scheme after chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh took up the matter with it. Under the project, the Centre will contribute 60% of the cost and the Punjab will invest the remaining amount. The colleges will be dedicated to the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev.
