Two friends drown in Yamuna near Sonepat

FOUR YOUTHS HAD GONE TO THE RIVER FOR A BATH; TWO WERE RESCUED BY PASSERSBY

ROHTAK: Two teenagers who went for a bath in the Yamuna near Sonepat’s Mimarpur village with two other friends drowned due to strong currents, police said on Sunday.

The victims have been identified as Ashish alias Ashu and Sahil, both aged 17.

Their friends Parveen Kumar and Sanyam were rescued by passersby.

The boys hailed from Malikpur village and studied in Class 12.

Sabal Singh, in-charge of Mimarpur police check post, said the four friends had gone to the Yamuna to take bath on Sunday around 11.30am.

“Due to strong currents,

Ashish and Sahil got swept away in the river while Parveen and Sanyam were rescued by some passersby. As soon as we received informatio­n about the incident, a police team, along with divers, rushed to the spot. Sahil’s body was fished out immediatel­y, but Ashish’s body was retrieved around 7.30pm. Their autopsy will be conducted tomorrow at the civil hospital in Sonepat,” he added.

The police have initiated inquest proceeding­s under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC).
