CURBS TO EASE IN VALLEY AHEAD OF EID, MOSQUES TO REMAIN SHUT

SRINAGAR:: Restrictio­ns will be eased in Kashmir for three days from Tuesday to allow people to make purchases ahead of the Eid-ul-azha on August 1, officials said on Monday.

The Jammu and Kashmir administra­tion has also decided to allow cleanlines­s drives in mosques and shrines. However, the shrine will remain closed for prayers.

Kashmir divisional commission­er Pandurang K Pole in a meeting with officials on Saturday decided to ease the lockdown from July 28 to 30 in the Valley for people to purchase goods and essential commoditie­s. Public transport will not be allowed to ply except auto rickshaws and private vehicles.

“The deputy commission­ers will take a call with regard to the pattern of opening of markets keeping in view Covid-19 guidelines,” said an order signed by Ashiq Hussain Malik deputy director with the divisional commission­er.

Besides, the DCS have been asked to identify suitable places for the sale of sacrificia­l animals.the Eid-ulazha festival will be celebrated on August 1.

As many as 220 people have died in the past 27 days in July alone. However, officials said the mortality rate is low in J&K as compared to the national average. The UT has mortality rate of 1.7% against 2.4% of the entire country. In Kashmir, the highest jump in cases was witnessed in Srinagar district where 132 more people tested positive followed by Anantnag at 53 and Pulwama at 38. In Jammu division, the highest number of 37 cases were reported in Jammu district and 23 in Kishtwar district.

According to officials, Jammu and Reasi districts have recorded lowest of 0.8% positivity rate in the UT, while Shopian has witnessed the highest positivity rate at 8.3% followed by 5.3% in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
