5 foreigners held with huge stock of Covid-19 drugs
CHANDIGARH: The chief minister’s flying squad along with a joint team of health department and police raided two places in Gurugram and arrested five foreign nationals along with ₹74 lakh and huge quantity of medicines being used for the treatment of Covid-19.
An official spokesperson said the drugs were being illegally sent to Iraq.
Among those arrested included four Iraqis and one person from Uzbekistan.
During the raid conducted at Aloha Apartments in Sector 57, ₹35.5 lakh and medicines worth about ₹30 lakh were recovered from the possession of the accused. Some of these medicines can be used to treat Covid -19 infection, while some toxic drugs have also been seized.
In another raid conducted in Sector 47, medicines worth about ₹14 lakh were recovered from the possession of the accused, including those used for the treatment of Covid-19, which are in great demand in the international market.
Besides this, about ₹39 lakh was recovered from a Toyota Fortuner SUV which was in the possession of the accused, the spokesperson said.
