PROSTITUTI­ON RACKET BUSTED IN BURAIL, THREE GIRLS RESCUED

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Police claimed to have busted another prostituti­on racket with the arrest of five people, including a woman, during a raid at Burail village on the intervenin­g night of Monday and Tuesday.

Pardeep Poodar and Jawahar Poddar of Dhanas, who were running a hotel on lease, along with Puneet Kumar and Raju Kumar of Nainital, who arranged the clients, were arrested. A woman from Udhampur, Jammu, who was running the racket, was also arrested. The accused were produced before court on Tuesday and sent to judicial custody.

Three girls, aged between 19 and 22 years, were also rescued. They were from different areas in Punjab. During investigat­ion, it came to light the girls had been forcibly pushed into the flesh trade by the hotel owner and the Udhampur woman. A case under the Immoral Traffickin­g Act was registered.

COP TRANSFERRE­D

The raid comes two days after another prostituti­on racket was busted in Kajheri village. The raid had led to the arrest of five people, including a woman. As many as 10 women were rescued.

Mini Bhardwaj, in-charge of the Sector 61 police post under which Kajheri falls, was on Tuesday transferre­d to Police Lines with immediate effect on administra­tive grounds.

Earlier, as a fallout of the case, two traffic policemen—asi Balbir and constable Ashok—were suspended and three police personnel—police post munshi Brijesh, head constable Pawan and Kavit, who were on Kajheri beat—were also transferre­d.
